Hillman Imp Californian gets the floor pan painted

One side is now complete, it looks too nice to cover with the new carpets?

Taken with a Canon G11 digital.

The passenger side floor pan will be stripped next and painted the same way.

Sound seal and a way to level the Hillman Californian Imp floor tray out.

This took a little thinking about but it works really well.

The plan was to create a flat floor finish that the new under felt and carpet can lay on top of, otherwise there would be a wavy or wash board effect. The material used is 1.5mm pre glued sound seal, three strips fit into each groove and a single layer covers them and the remaining floor.

The finish is rather level, amazing!

Imp Californian gets a special etch primer coating

This paint is special and has an acid additive cure agent, just 6% only of the acid.

The paint is a special formula and has a high solids content, it covers most things with one coat which is what you can see in the picture.

A second coat will be applied to complete the finish.

Carpets can then be fitted.

Hillman Imp Californian transformation with paint

Click on the image to enlarge it, note the green etch primer on the drivers side floor and also the rear parcel shelf. The floor on that side took two days to clean and get ready for painting.

Now then, all I did today was paint the section of floor I was working on the last two days but it has transformed the car? :D

I will paint a second coat in the morning, then I need to turn the car around to do the nearside of the car, that will be at least another two days work if not more :(
