By the time Chrysler brought out the new Sunbeam Talbot, they had stretched the Imp block about as far as it will go with out steel liners being insterted as done on the 998cc
engines.
engines.
This is not an Imp block, the crank at the flywheel has been changed, the oil return is different too. The engine can be machined to fit an Imp though, a nice step up to the famous 998cc block with far less cost.
The Chrysler 930cc block has been changed slightly but not by much.

Sunbeam blocks actually have an oilseal on the crank at the clutch end! You do need to change the end case for an Imp one with the outrigger for the water pump, unless you run an electric pump, also rig a front alternator bracket as it's different.
ReplyDeleteI have a nice 1040 Sunbeam block waiting for a Wills ringed head so I can put it in the Mk 7 Davrian.
