The Hillman Imp engine has been a favorite in power boats for some decades, for one its light and it had great power bands when the correct camshaft is chosen.
Check the ouput shaft, its a direct drive to the crank, there is no fan belt pully, the water pump will be electrical? Power wise these engines will put out as much as 110bhp and more, the power band will exist to at least 8500 rpm, I have heard that some will rev to 11000 rpm and need to handle that when the prop comes out of the water.
