Another one of those long lost pictures, the car was a 1968 model, it will have been just a few years old then, not sure how old those girls were but they will be about thirty five years older now I guess!
The car was mine, I had owned a new one in Liverpool, same colour but the standard 875cc engine. The car in the picture was a very different matter, it would hold an MGB going up a hill quite easily. The engine was a works fitted unit and was quite a surprise to me when I changed a head gasket.

Amazing photo, Roy. Were you ever able to determine how the car came from the factory with a 998? Sounds like a great distraction for the guys on the assembly line: "every thousandth car we surreptitiously swap in a 998."
ReplyDeleteHello,
DeleteThe cars were allowed to be sent to the Coventry competitions department as a pre delivery exercise. They would then remove the engine and either convert that, or change the engine to the 998cc unit.VIN numbers are an issue here?
You could order this as a factory extra, it was about 168 Pounds I think, the additional fee just went on your invoice.
When I bought the car I assumed it was the 875cc unit?
