A trip to see the classic race cars yesteday was a trip down memory lane for me.The club has changed some since I last raced there but not so much thats its not recognisable. This weekends two day event is named The Cape South Easter,in 1972 and in the Argus class F I came second in class in the same event.Thats forty years ago!
The control tower is larger but still carries the same styling as the old one, which is basically the lower two floors on the track side as I remember.
The control tower can just be seen on the right hand side, the rest of the aea has now been well used, its far cleaner than before and many have now got their own private garages.
There is certainally a large capital inverstment in South African car racing, some of these large transporter vans can be lowered level to the tarmac for easy access,I wonder what that costs?
Sarel Van Der Merwe gets ready to take his very large American V8 racer out for pracitice. Thats Cape Towns Table Mountain in the distance.
The program for the event lists the car as a 1966 Ford Galaxy Coupe, thats some forty six (46) years old!
