Hillman Imp 998cc block build

Seen here is the freshly cleaned all alloy Imp block, the liners are in but are still loose, they are a slip in fit and will be bonded in with Loctite 648 sealant at the next stage.

The cleaning method was with a light acid wash, then the exterior was bead blasted, the  block was then carefully washed with clean water.

The cylinder head bolt holes have also had steel inserts fitted, with some additional welds in specific places, this block will be a good as we can make it.

With the series 108 sport cylinder head fitted,we can see the inside and how close the fit is.

Nice and clean, ready for the next stage, which will be the fitting of the crank, pistons and con rods.

The special retaining compound,  Loctite 648,it acts as a sealant also and will keep the engines coolant water in place.
